Mercury Lifejacket
Mercury Marine has introduced a new-look Personal
Floatation Device (PFD), the Mercury 150N inflatable lifejacket.
The Australian Approved PFD
offers twice the buoyancy of conventional jackets, according
to Mercury, and is also smaller, allowing users to wear the
jacket without feeling restricted in movement.
The jacket is inflated by pulling a tab to release
a CO2 canister and a mouthpiece allows for manual inflation.

Majestic DVD2000
Majestic Global has added the DVD2000
DVD player to its range.
Designed with a mounting bracket to
be installed like a car stereo, it features CD, DVD and MP3 players
as well as two Aux inputs, (one at the front, another at the rear).
This allows for switching between video, DVD, or another device
without the need to disconnect and reconnect.
The audio line output can be taken
from the DVD and connect to Majestic’s CDC8000 with AUX line input, to give full stereo
sound throughout the cabin.
The DVD2000 is priced from $330 and

Burke Pacific
Burke has released its new design
Pacific offshore range.
The Pacific jacket has a fleece-lined
collar and hood system, gravity draining pockets, fleece-lined
hand warmer pockets and internal and external wrist seals.
The Pacific comes with increased
breathability, is more durable and has extra reflective patches.

| MTU 12V and 16V 2000
Following the launch of its 8- and 10-cylinder 2000
Common Rail engines in 2004, MTU has launched its new 12- and 16-cylinder
versions at the Miami Boat Show.
With a power of 2400hp and weighing just under 3.4
tons, the 16V 2000 Common Rail has a power-to-weight ratio of .71hp
per kilogram.
The 16V 2000 Common Rail is suited to boats in the
80-120 foot range and allows conventional 80-foot boats with twin
engine installations to reach speeds of more than 50 knots.
The 1800hp MTU 12V 2000 Common Rail weighs 2.8 tons
and is suited to boats in the 60- to 100-foot class.
The engines are fitted with a turbocharger system in which three
turbochargers are used. One runs at low engine speeds; the second
and third turbochargers only engaging electronically at higher
engine speeds.
According to MTU, the new engines are 20 per cent
more powerful than previous models and boasts a more efficient
fuel consumption rate of 210g/kWh.
The new 12V and 16V 2000 Common Rail engines are
scheduled to start production as of July, 2005, and are expected
to be available to customers as of September, 2005.

Henri Lloyd has introduced the Quest
jacket as part of its 2005 range.
Made from TP1 breathable fabric,
the Quest is suited to coastal cruising, says Henri Lloyd.
It features waterproof taped seams, a high tenacity, yard reinforced

Corvalus Baitcasters
Shimano has added three new baitcasters to its range.
The CVL 200, 300 and 400 feature die-cast aluminium frames, sideplates
and spools with three A-RB bearings and one stainless steel roller
bearing, a non-disengaging levelwind system, Super stopper and
Assist Stopper and a quick take-down system for easy servicing.
The 200 holds 210m of 5kg line, while the 300 holds 240m of 6kg
and the 400 has a line capacity of 250m of 7kg.
Each reel has a gear ratio of
5.2:1 and an adjustable Variable Braking System.

Navman Sport Tool
Navman has used its GPS technology to create a new product called
Sport Tool, an electronic personal trainer available in five
specific models.
Sport Tool uses satellite signals to give speed and distance
readings, whether the user is running, walking, skiing or sailing.
The triangle-shaped unit is small enough to fit in the palm of
the hand and comes with a fabric strap to fit to the upper arm
for training.
According to David King, Navman’s Australasian sales manager, “each
model has been specially tailored with sport-specific features.”
The R300 is suitable for running and has features such as lap
recording, pace target zone with alarm and an automatic timer,
while the W300 is suited to walking and includes calories burned
as well as a timer.
The S300 is ideal for inline skating and jogging and features
max speed, target speed zone with alarm and automatic timer functions.
For those who enjoy alpine skiing, snow boarding and hiking,
the A300 provides readings for distance skied, max speed, altitude
and accumulated altitude.
The M300 can be used for watersport activities, such as windsurfing,
sailing and boating. It provides readouts for lap distance, speed,
max speed, heading and is water resistant.
Each model displays time, speed and average speed accurate to
within plus or minus 0.3km/h and distance covered accurate to
within plus or minus two per cent.

New Verado Models
Mercury Marine introduced
the latest additions to the Verado range at this year’s Sanctuary
Cove International Boat Show.
The supercharged four-stroke 135, 150 and 175hp models join the
six-cylinder 200, 225, 250 and 275hp engine line-up launched
last year.
The 135-175hp Verado range is designed for all boats with the
appropriate transom rating. They are available in 20- and 25-inch
shaft lengths and the 25-inch is offered with standard and counter
rotation for dual engine applications.
Aside from being built on a 1.7L, in line four-cylinder platform,
the new models have a similar base engine to the larger models,
with dual overhead cams, four-valves-per-cylinder and the bedplate
and longbolt design often seen in Formula 1 race cars.
All Verado models are 3-star Ultra-Low rated by the CARB (California
Air Resources Board) for long-term emissions compliance.
The 135-175hp Mercury and Mariner Verado models will be released
as 2006 models.

Raymarine Wireless
Raymarine has launched two new wireless remote controls; the
SmartController and the S100.
The SmartController is a hand-held wireless controller that displays
SeaTalk instrumentation information and controls SeaTalk-based
autopilots, even when away from the helm.
It acts as a remote controller for an autopilot and a repeater
for monitoring instrument readings and is compatible with all Raymarine
autopilots (except Sport Pilot) that use the SeaTalk protocol.
The SmartController has a range of up to 10 metres from the base
station and features a raised-profile standby button and backlit
buttons for night time use. It has eight programmable/user-defined
pages that show one, two or four lines of text plus graphics.
All information is presented on a high-contrast 62 x 127 pixel
matrix display.
The system can be expanded to provide additional SmartControllers
for other crew members and each handset comes with two cradles,
a lanyard and belt clip.
The palm-sized S100 is a wireless remote control for all SeaTalk-based
Raymarine autopilots. It has a high-contrast 24 x 127 dot matrix
screen, which displays two lines of text and an autopilot mode
quick reference graphic.
It also features a raised standby button and has a 10-metre range
from the base station, which, like the SmartController, will
sound an alert signal when the remote moves out of range
The S100 is IPX6 waterproof and comes with two storage cradles,
a lanyard and belt clip. Additional base stations and remotes
can also be added to the system for larger vessels.

New WAECO Coolers
WAECO has announced the release of three new coolers.
The smallest is the CF-35 Kompressor, which now comes with 240
volts AC.
Weighing 15kg, it has a 32.5-litre capacity and features CF special
electronics, such as turbo freeze, 3-stage battery protection,
electronic temperature control emergency switch and memory function.
According to WAECO, the unit uses minimal power, is quiet to
run and is suitable for solar operation.
The CA-40 three-way absorption cooler accepts gas as well as
AC from the power sock or direct current from a 12-volt cigarette
lighter.
The cooling capacity can be regulated up to a maximum level of
25 degrees below ambient and it has a storage capacity of 40
litres.
At the top end is the NTE-45 Thermoelectric cooler/warmer.
It has a 45-litre capacity, weighs 8.4kg and has a cooling capacity
of 20 degrees below the ambient temperature. It is powered via
a car cigarette lighter or can be hooked up to an AC power point
through an optional adaptor.

Rapala X-Rap Minnow
Shimano has released the new Rapala X-Rap.
Weighing 13 grams and measuring 10 centimetres in length, the X-Rap
has an internal holographic foil, 3D holographic eye and textured,
translucent body.
It comes in six colours and will run at depths from 1.2 metres
when cast, to 1.8 metres on the troll.
The X-Rap has a stainless steel through-wire construction, 3X split
rings and PermaSteel 3X hooks as well as Rapala’s internal
Long Cast System, where a series of ball bearings travel to the
tail during the cast then settle in the head as the retrieve begins.
