Mercury’s
new four-strokes
Mercury Marine is set to launch three new outboards
at this year’s Club Marine Melbourne Boat Show.
The 75, 90 and 115hp four-stroke outboards share
common engine architecture and components with Mercury’s Verado range
and feature SmartCraft technology.
These 1.7-litre engines are controlled by an
electronic control module (ECM) that features a Motorola microprocessor,
which, according to Mercury, provides precise control over
the fuel management system and engine combustion process. It
also constantly monitors the engine sensors, making necessary
adjustments to maintain optimum function.

Cummins QSM11
Cummins MerCruiser Diesel (CMD) has introduced a
715hp rating for its 11-litre QSM11 engine.
Maritimo is the first boat builder in the south
Pacific to offer the QSM11-715 as standard fitment in its 48 and
52ft cruisers.
The higher horsepower rating has been achieved by
refining performance components such as the piston bowl design,
plus fitting a new camshaft and a new generation of injectors.
Cummins has also beefed up the flywheel and oil
pan to accommodate the higher engine speeds.
Now rated at 2500rpm – up from 2300rpm in
the lower power offerings – the QSM11-715 has, according
to Cummins, improved performance on the propeller curve, yielding
better slow speed manoeuvring, stronger acceleration and better
overall top end performance.
