Dean Miller: Each year, third week in August, thousands of yachties from around the country, and around the world for that matter, head to Hamilton Island on the Great Barrier Reef for the annual Hamilton Island Race Week. Tight, dramatic, spectacular racing, magnificent vistas, and of course, outstanding events. Hamilton Island Race Week with the great support of Club Marine. Let's take a look at the week that was.
Mark Richards: I'm Mark Richards. Like to welcome you all aboard Wild Oats for this afternoon's little class. Club Marine and the Oatley family of Hamilton Island have been a great relationship for many years, so it's always great to do some nice things like this for you guys.
Simon Mclean: Firstly, I have to say it's our absolute pleasure to host everybody here this evening. We hope you have a terrific night.
These events don't happen without people like Glenn Bourke and his team, and beautiful people like the Oatley family, so I'd like to firstly start by thanking them for bringing us the very best of on-shore and off-shore activities.
Richard Wise: This is just the best experience. I've been sending all the messages back home, and I just can't believe, I really can't believe, how well Hamilton Island is run.
Speaker 5: Well, after a long day on the water in the Club Marine Classic long race, this is the stuff they should be drinking.
Dean Miller: Many, many of your members here. You insure a lot of these boats. The fleet is getting bigger. Does that make you more nervous every year, or are you -
Simon Mclean: No, no. We think it's fantastic, and it's such a great thing. The reason that people come is because the regatta is so well run. It's a great place to be, that everything's so well, whether it's on-shore or off-shore. Ah, no. The more boats the better, from our point of view.
Dean Miller: Now, you've got a lot going on. You've got great support at this event. The owners and skippers event the other night, of course. Hydration stations all around the place; the water bottles; everyone's got a hat. Club Marine seems to be everywhere.
Simon Mclean: Yeah, look, what we're trying to do is have presence on the island, but also add value to the yachties. We want to be part of it. I'm looking forward to getting out and having a sail today.
Dean Miller: So if that hasn't whet your appetite for Hamilton Island Race Week in 2019, I don't know what will.
With thanks to Club Marine. Great supporters of Race Week TV, and great supporters of Hamilton Island Race Week.
See you next time.
